Scared To Dance

Scared To Dance is a club, gig and film night based in Hackney, London founded in 2009.
The club plays indiepop, post-punk, new wave and sixties music and is on the first Friday of the month at The Victoria and the third Saturday of the month at The Shacklewell Arms. Over the years we have invited some of our favourite people, record labels and bands to guest DJ at the club. These have included: writers Jon Ronson and Pete Paphides, comedians Josie Long and Robin Ince, broadcasters Gideon Coe, Colin Murray and Dougie Anderson, poet Simon Armitage and former international footballer Pat Nevin.

Our gigs are every other month at The Shacklewell Arms and have hosted some of Europe’s best independent bands. Our film nights are every other month at the arthouse Genesis Cinema in Whitechapel. We show a music related film on each night followed by a question and answer session with our guest. Curators include Josie Long presenting The National’s documentary film Mistaken For Strangers, Robin Ince introducing The Monkees’ Head, Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch showing Ladies and Gentlemen… Mr. Leonard Cohen and Jon Ronson with The Devil and Daniel Johnston.
We release monthly podcasts focusing on new music, have published several fanzines and have DJed across London and elsewhere including: NYC Popfest, London Popfest, Indietracks Festival, 100 Club, Cargo, XOYO, The Lexington, Birthdays, The Alibi, Sebright Arms, 229, Power Lunches, The Macbeth, Buffalo Bar, Brixton Windmill, Camden Barfly, The Luminaire, The Old Queen’s Head, The Wilmington Arms, Bush Hall, The Betsey Trotwood, The Slaughtered Lamb, King’s Cross Social Club, The Albany, The Lion, Moustache Bar as well as in Berlin, Oslo, Bergen, Edinburgh and New York.
